Institution/Company This project is constructed by the EPM Group, made up of the Public Companies of Medellin and the Hidroituango S.A. E.S.P., a mixed society that the Government of Antioquia is the major shareholder. The main civil projects of the hydroelectric project consist in the consortium CCC Ituango, which includes the Camargo Correa (Brazil) company, Concreto and Coninsa Ramon H (Colombia).

Project Overview The project constists of a dam 225 meters tall and 20 million meters in volume, with a 2,400 megawatts of installed capacity underground (16% of the country’s energy) and generates 13,930 GWh of annual energy measurement. The project has impacted ways of life and economic activities for those who inhabit the area. The defense has been for the respect of human rights and the environment, the non-stigmatization for economic activities, nor the criminalization of protest to defend water and the environment. The project has not been consulted, nor has it received adequate participation from the local population.
